Paul Harnick

Camper, Counselor, Group Leader

After many years as a model camper, Paul was one of the great counselors at camp. His leadership qualities made him an easy selection as a two-time Color War general. He is still the only counselor in Tyler Hill Camp history to have served twice as both general and lieutenant. This true Tyler Hill Camp legend was also the only person to have found the hatchet twice. His parents, Leo and Rhoda, ran the THC office for Bill and Joe for close to twenty years. His sisters, Arlene and Janet were also campers, counselors, Group Leaders, as well as Color War Generals.

When Color War rolled around, Paul became energized like no one else. He felt that every single point mattered and he possessed an ability to energize everyone around him. In the early days of the famous Rope Burn event, Paul led the very first crew to victory, methodically planning the types and sizes of wood to be burned, as well as the particular order they would be thrown into the fire. His frenzied and inspiring leadership during Color War, as well as during other times throughout the summer, gave the campers and the counselors some priceless memories of camp.

Paul, who was well liked and respected by his fellow counselors, as well as his campers, was also a group leader under Irv Goldstein and was an excellent role model. He made many friends at Tyler Hill Camp and he remains very close with several of the camp's most well known alumni, many of whom are Dr. Harnick's patients. His lively turns as a Color War General, with his Indiana Jones-style of searching for the hatchet helped make Paul Harnick one of the more colorful members of the THC family. Even today, Paul fondly recalls his days at camp as a magical time in his life.
