Isabel "Izzi" Goldstein

Counselor and Head of Girls' Tennis 1962 to 1978

"Izzi" is a true THC legend. Already famous at camp for her spirited turn as Color War general of the 1962 winning White Country Hicks, she was known by Sy as an excellent counselor. Her husband, Irv, was the highly regarded Boys' Head Counselor from 1973 through 1978. But it was her time as the Girls' Tennis Counselor that proved to be the reason she is worthy of induction. There was a time at Tyler Hill Camp, where winning the inter-camp tennis tournaments was so commonplace, that we all took it for granted. But we all remember those days when the camp station wagon came into camp, honking its' horn in celebration of yet another romp in tennis. Just go into Wayne Hall and take a close look at some of the trophies, then match up the years to Izzi's watch. Behind every winning season is the coach. She was known for her boundless energy and the campers adored her, many of whom will surely testify having their tennis skills elevated by her valued instruction. She enjoyed a terrific reputation at Tyler Hill Camp as a true camp spirit, and people just loved being around her. Every year, on her birthday, without fail, her friends threw Izzi in the lake.

Izzi and Irv have two sons, who both enjoyed many great summers, as campers at Tyler Hill. The Goldsteins now live in Nevada, and they remember the 'Hill with great fondness.
