Irv Goldstein

Tennis Counselor (1962-65), Assistant Boys' Head Counselor (1966-71), Boys' Head Counselor (1973 to 1978)

Irv first arrived at Tyler Hill Camp, with his fiance, Isabel, in 1962. He started as the Boys' Tennis Counselor for several years. He worked for Ed Michael, as the Assistant Head Counselor, where he was well liked by the staff and campers alike. In 1973, after a year off from camp, Bill Heft selected Irv as the Boys' Head Counselor. It was the beginning of a new era at Tyler Hill, as this was the first summer following the death of Bill's partner Joe Bernstein. At the time, Tyler Hill Camp was approaching the peak of its success. While his wife "Izzi" established her own legendary status as the Girls' Head Tennis Counselor, Irv's skill at running the program, along with his strong leadership proved to be a key factor in helping with Tyler Hill Camp's ascent to the top of the summer camp pyramid.

The boys loved Irv, who was strong in his role as the head of the Boys' Camp. The counselors respected his leadership and many at camp saw him as an exemplary roll model. A top-notch staff of counselors and Group Leaders complimented him. Irv, who always seemed to enjoy his time at camp, also had a friendship with the long-time Girls' Head Counselor, Sy Sundick, which helped make Tyler Hill Camp great for everyone. Their friendship created a formidable partnership, and to Bill's delight, these two giants helped to bring Tyler Hill Camp to its very peak. The Goldsteins now live in Nevada, and they remember the 'Hill with great fondness.
