Alvin "Eppy" Epstein

Dining Room Manager

Eppy arrived at Tyler Hill Camp in the mid 90's and with a wealth of knowledge from previously running a summer camp's food operations, brought a whole new level of dinning room management to camp. Feeding over 700 people 3 times a day is not always an easy task, yet Eppy was always on top of ordering the food, keeping the storage room fully stocked with food for the entire camp and making sure that every camper and counselor had something to eat every meal. With all the various dietary restrictions, Eppy went out of his way to ensure that no stone was left unturned, and would always prepare alternate meals for those campers.

Eppy was more than just the dining room manager. If you had the privledge to work for him, he showed you how important your role is in the overall camp operation and tought you how to be a responsible young adult. You may not have realized at the time what you were doing, but there was always a reason for everything that Eppy asked you to do, from stacking chairs to consolidating the milk. Not only did Eppy run a tight kitchen, but his talent, expertise and hard-working personality extended outside of the dinning room. When the weekly Wednesday BBQ's took place up at the Social Hall, like clockwork, Eppy would start lining up his team to make sure all the food was sent up and cooked in time for each group. It wasn't out of the ordinary to see Eppy flying back and forth on his cart between the BBQ site and the kitchen, taking matters into his own hands. Eppy never hestiated when the food supply was in jeopardy and kept this constant flow going all summer long.

While Eppy may have "retired" from camp several years ago, he is still a vital part of the camp's operation. He continues to do all the pre-camp food ordering and is sporadically seen around camp during Rookie Day and Visiting Day, offering support and providing a flawless presentation to the parents and campers. Eppy is one of the hardest working people in the industry and his dedication to his job and Tyler Hill Camp makes his induction into the THC Hall of Fame as necessary as it is to stack the plates at the end of every meal.
