Eleanor Bernstein

Wife of Joe Bernstein (original THC co-owner)

She was a bright and elegant woman who was the perfect complement to Joe. For 17 years, following their time at Camp Rosemont, Eleanor shared the role as "Co-First Lady" of THC with Pauline Heft. Eleanor was a familiar sight around camp, as she was often spotted at the waterfront, or on the golf course, but almost always by Joe's side in the Dining Room, or at the events taking place in the Social Hall. Eleanor often threw lavish parties in Wayne Hall for the staff, as a way of showing appreciation for all of their hard work. She understood that all members of the THC staff were part of a family and she made sure they knew that they were appreciated.

Eleanor was well liked by so many at camp, as she and Joe enjoyed close friendships with several members of the staff, especially Selma and Sy Sundick, who became friends with the Bernsteins at Camp Rosemont. She was actively involved in local charities and used events like the Carnival to raise funds. Eleanor and Joe had two children, Dorothy and Marty, both of whom were campers at Tyler Hill.

Eleanor passed away many years ago, but she is remembered fondly by many of the alumni for her warmth, her class, and her kindness.
